Context

The Su22 palette was a combination of punchy coral tones and grounding gentle greens. The palette for fall needs to have synergy with the remaining colors of summer that will linger on, while also bringing renewed zest and energy for fall and the back-to-school season. The colors should be easily wearable but also unique, with the range of colors supporting transitional garments and fabrications.

Goals

  • Build a 6-moth neutral color palette that will support key fabrications and styles for FaHO22

  • Build a 3-month trend color palette for FA22, inspired by upcoming trends and seasonal concepts

  • Create a Color strategy to show how colors can layer over time, and important outfitting opportunities for ease of shopping

GIRLS FA23 SEASONAL COLOR PALETTE

Starting with the Core Colors and carryover colors from the previous season, I researched upcoming trends for the season with the lens of activewear and youth, keeping in mind our seasonal fabrication and styles. Based on this research, I began to pick out color standards for each key color group identified, along with complimentary shades and heathers for texture. I then converted the physical color chips into the digital color palette seen below.

COLOR BY KEY FABRIC PROGRAM + MOODBOARD

After this, I began to dive into the strategy around the proportion and pairings of color. I built out a mood board depicting how the colors could be worn together harmoniously as well as showing how our specific fabrications could carry the different colors for the season. I made sure to communicate which colors we should be investing the most into, based on my trend research, analysis of the customer, and past sales history.

FA23 KEY STYLE COLOR PRESSURE TEST

I then colored up 3D mock-ups of key styles in the proposed palette so cross-functional stakeholder were able to understand which styles and fabrication could support what colors, and key outfitting for the customer. I also worked on the color flow strategy per month, highlighting when colors should enter and exit during the season, to avoid clashing or overwhelming merchandising in store and online.
